KrautPress Musings

For some time now, I’ve been thinking about how to scale KrautPress up a little. Back in 2016, I started this wonky German WordPress magazine called KrautPress. Over the years, it saw many contributors come and go. Some wrote just a post or two; others were true powerhouses, churning out high-quality content left and right. I truly appreciated everyone contributing.

However, since day one, I struggled to produce content for the blog on a regular basis. But ever since acquiring the “kraut.press “domain last year and thus starting the English version of the site, I have been inspired to provide valuable content for the community.

Late last year, I got the idea to base most of KrautPress’ content on regular columnists. I’ll kick things off with a monthly plugin review column. Like what I did for the 24 days of plugins in December but waaaaay less stressful.

On top of that, I already have one additional regular contributor on board and many more ideas for people and topics.

What’s the motivation?

Well, I could just not do it. But besides all the fun I would miss out on, I truly believe in the value of independent WP news and thought outlets. In an internet full of false information, hate, and short videos, we need a place for whimsy, fun, and the craft of building websites.

I’m also deeply invested in the well-being of the WordPress community that I’ve been a part of for the better part of two decades now.

What’s next?

In late January, I asked for some plugin ideas to kick my own column off. A dear friend wrote a first draft for their column, and another friend, Matthias Pfefferle, agreed to try an experimental livestream format with me, where we’ll focus on tinkering with the IndieWeb and personal websites. Unlike all the other content, the sessions with Matthias will only be available in German for now.

If you’d like to cover a WordPress or WordPress-adjacent topic in a monthly column over 6 or 12 months, let’s chat. 🙂

Until then, watch out for new KrautPress content. Either on the web, in our feeds, or the fediverse. We try to be good members of the open web over there.
