Our second book with Rheinwerk Verlag is coming out these days. In the revised and significantly updated “WordPress 7 – Das umfassende Handbuch”, Flo Brinkmann and I once again turn our attention, as we did with last year’s edition, to a comprehensive guide to the popular content management system. And yes, it’s still “just” in German, sorry.
More chapters, but also more focus
Over the past 8 months we haven’t just revised the content of the previous edition and trimmed it down in places. We’ve also added a few entirely new topics and brought another guest author on board.
There’s now a new chapter on integrating “AI” into WordPress. It’s a topic I, personally, view with more than a little skepticism but one that’s without any doubt attracting a lot of broad interest right now and one where WordPress is currently taking its first careful steps. Writing about it in a way that wouldn’t already be outdated by the time of publication was especially challenging.
Another completely new chapter is dedicated to the FAIR project. It’s faded into the background somewhat over the past few months, but it remains a valid option for anyone who wants to run their WordPress sites not just as GDPR-compliant but also as less dependent on centralized infrastructure.
For the third new chapter, on the important topic of accessibility, we were able to bring Matze Kittsteiner on board. Accessibility is not a new topic at all. But in the previous edition we simply didn’t have the time to give it the room it deserves. Having now read Matze’s take on it, I’m almost tempted to call that a stroke of luck. We couldn’t have covered it in such depth ourselves.
And of course, Matthias Pfefferle is back too, having brought his chapter on the IndieWeb up-to-date.
Strong partners
Matze and Matthias aren’t the only ones who made this new edition possible. Rheinwerk Verlag, in particular, was once again a strong partner. For one thing, we were already happy just to be asked for a new edition. For another, we had a new editor at our side in Felix Jüstel, who was rattled neither by our wild questions nor by the wild release schedule surrounding WordPress 7.0. Thank you very much!
We’re still making the mistakes ourselves
Whether it’s here on the blog, in the WP Letter, at KrautPress, or wherever else I publish content… everywhere, I make a point of actually writing my content myself. The result is rarely perfect, even when I put in the effort. Much the same goes for our book. At a time when “AI” is producing more and more content, you almost start to feel like an oddity when you spend half a year hammering out text with your fingers on a keyboard. But that’s precisely what we did.
